A Little Guide To Help Make Your Day Incredible
In todays #smilewithnate I want to take you through preparing for your photoshoot. Your day is special, you have invested money into gaining the best exposure for your brand and you will want to get the best from the shoot. Preparation is key to this success. It will help you get the best experience from the session.
At your session I will do everything in my power to ensure your having the most incredible time, you’re not on your own, this experience is something I want you to feel a sense of fulfilment every time you look at your photo, proud of what you have achieved.
In this guide I’m going to give you some pointers to consider, which I feel will make your experience out of this world and give you that true smile for the day.
The Week Before The Shoot
Plan Your Day
Try to plan the day of your shoot. I know it’s tough, running a business needs your full attention, but do your best to ensure you don’t have any appointments or scheduling conflicts in the lead up to your session and sometime after. You want to be focused during your shoot, not distracted by outside sources.

Pamper Yourself
Try to plan the day of your shoot. I know it’s tough, running a business needs your full attention, but do your best to ensure you don’t have any appointments or scheduling conflicts in the lead up to your session and sometime after. You want to be focused during your shoot, not distracted by outside sources.
Plan your clothing appropriately
Plan your clothing appropriately, your business is an extension of you, photo shoots fail because people are self-conscious, we always struggle in some way with the way we look, no matter what people say, but wearing something that fits you perfect, that looks exactly how you want, will not only give you a buzz and make you feel like a movie star, but also help you smile for many years to come.
The Night Before And Morning Of The Shoot
Rest and Relax
Try to get plenty of rest, relax, take a hot bath, watch a film, and get plenty of sleep, remember it’s only a photo, don’t get worked up, don’t worry and don’t stress, it’s going to be fun, it’s going to be exhilarating, you’re the movie star of the day, rock that.

Hydrate and Eat Well
Make sure you eat, eating a good healthy breakfast is important for any day, but more important for the shoot, ive been there, tummy rumbling, thinking of that wonderful cheese sandwich I made for today that is calling my name, but losing my concentration and focus, so make sure you have plenty of energy for your shoot.
Prepare Your Clothes
Make sure your clothes are ironed and without wrinkles, if you have a lint roller, just go over your clothing, especially if you have pets, they have a wonderful knack of knowing you’re doing something important and want to shed their lovely hair everywhere to remind you they love you.

Avoid Being an Advertisement Board
Do your best to avoid excessive jewellery or excessive makeup, and where possible avoid clothing with lots of logos or badges unless their company logos and badges, you don’t want to look like a walking advertisement board.
Spectacle Wearers
Where possible avoid wearing glasses with transition lens, or blue light reflectors, because if I studio lights, there can sometimes be reflections which will ruin your shots, And even during post editing, are near impossible to remove, so if you can wear normal regular glasses with no special tints etc.

Facial Hair
If you have facial hair, either cleanly shave or tidy up your beard, but remember never shave immediately before the shoot, razor burn, and discoloration will show up and be more apparent when taking photos.
10 Minutes Before Your Shoot
Brush Your Hair
Bring a comb or a brush with you so you can make sure you’re not sprouting clumps of wayward hair, I can remove single strands in post edit, but large clumps are more difficult, If you can use a little water, it can really help.

Look for Shine
Your shoot may include using flash photography, any sweaty or dry spots will show up making portions of your face look shiny. If you’re not wearing makeup, splash a little cold water on your face and pat down with some paper towels, if you are wearing makeup, use simple powders and avoid any shiny or glossy make up, as this will reflect of the camera when combined with the studio flash.
Also keep the use of lotions to a minimum, they too can be reflective, try not to put any kind of lotion on the day of the shoot where possible.
Clean your glasses
I am terrible for dirty glasses, it’s because I wear them all the time, I get used to them. I will have a micro fibre cloth in my kit bag so please ask if you don’t have one. And if you can try to wear glasses that are glare resistant, as this will reduce the noise from the flash to your glasses and help control bright spots that are very difficult to remove post edit.

A Little Recap
Just remember this is an amazing experience, just relax, ill guide you and help you get the most out of your experience, don’t be afraid to ask questions, there is no such thing as a bad question. Just enjoy the moment, this is going to be an amazing day.
