Let's Get To Know McGin-Lee HR's Business

What Year Did You Establish Your Business? Or How Many Years Have You Been Trading

April 2022

What Products And Or Services Do You Offer?

HR Solutions

How Many Employees Or Staff Members Do You Have?

Just Myself, but my husband Rod supports me part time in the background, although he is not an employee, and then there is my dog Linux and cat KitKat

Do You Or Your Business Have A Motto?

Putting the HUMAN into Human Resources is the main one (and I’m starting to use Your One-Stop HR Pocket Rocket in Year 2…)

What Are Your Core Business Values?

Ethical, Moral, Decent, Supportive, Commercial, Inclusive, Solutions-focused, Value-adding.

How Do You See Yourself/Business?

My aim is to be affordable to business owners, to ensure they treat their people decently. Having experienced the good and bad, I come at HR from a place of empathy. I enjoy providing personal, bespoke, commercial support and getting to know my clients (as my tag-line says it’s all about Putting the HUMAN into Human Resources). I also offer flexible solutions, recognising that some will only want HR support on an ad hoc basis, others on an ongoing basis but I work with my clients in whichever way they need. I base my pricing on deliverables and outputs rather than time-chunks (where possible) and I am passionate about supporting early HR professionals (links to University of Lincoln for example). I see my business as Your One-Stop HR Pocket Rocket! I could go on….!!

What 3 Words Best Describe Your Brand, The Work That You Do Or The Products You Create?

Just 3??!! OK so here goes… Authentic – what you see is what you get, I’m an Intendent HR Consultant and I’m straight-talking and my approach is non-fluffy. Meaningful – as in the solutions I offer come from years of experience, I won’t follow process for process sake. Professional – you can rely on my solutions to be the right ones and I’ll always give you options. Impactful – anything I do with my clients is about delivering what is required in the right way. And finally, Bespoke – there’s no cookie-cutter approach, it’s about what’s right for the client and their business. But I’d love to flip that on its head – what words would YOU use to describe me / my brand / the work I do?!

Do You Have A Funny Business Story? Be Honest? What About A Embarrassing Moment That Still Makes You Smile Today?

I was a finalist for Female Leader of the Year at The Business Show 2022, and I had to speak to a panel of 3 judges on the first morning of the exhibition – 1 of whom was a winner of The Apprentice. When the time came, I launched my selfie board at them and asked for a photo (I can share this if needed) and then proceeded to waffle for 3 or 4 minutes, gushing and giggling – I have no idea what I said but I was a bit overwhelmed! It went well as they were all really positive in their responses – but I remember thinking whilst really authentic it perhaps wasn’t my most professional moment!!

I had never done a professional photo-shoot before and when I originally contacted Nate I didn’t know what I was looking for. Nate shared a photo he had taken of my Stand at The Peterborough Biscuit and the photo just popped – I loved it! So when it came to thinking about photos for my new website, I thought of Nate. It didn’t matter that I didn’t know what I was looking for – we arranged a zoom and chatted and by the end of that meeting, Nate had understood what I was looking for, and followed up quickly with a proposal and costs. The service was quick, and to meet my deadlines, Nate even came and did the shoot on a Sunday. On arrival, rather than launching into the shoot, we sat and chatted over a cuppa and then kind of just slipped into the session, Half of the time I didn’t even know Nat was taking photos, but he put me at ease and was there to guide, support and encourage me. Nate took the time to listen and ensure the shots he took were meaningful. I was especially chuffed as not only did Nate capture our fur babies (Linux & KitKat), but he also incorporated a phot of my late Father in some of them. During the shoot, Nate paused to show me the images from time to time, and before leaving, he checked he had the shots he wanted and needed. When I received the gallery I was blown away by the photos – he seemed to have captured “me” if that makes sense, and he made me look incredible. Thanks Nate! I would have no hesitation in recommending Nate as a photographer. As an aside, we were so happy with the photos of Linux & KitKat, separately we’ve asked Nate to do a print for us (pleasure not business). I also found the payment options
